Darci Lang in Swift Current

The first time I met Darci Lang was at Malabar Tuxedo rentals in Regina when I stopped by to rent a booth for my photography in her wedding show.  I have been a fan ever since.  She is so sweet and bubbly and can always find a way to lift your spirits.  Her message is to focus on what is positive in your life.  So many times since I have heard her message, I have stopped when a situation seems tough and thought to myself just focus on how blessed and fortunate you are and it really changes my perspective.

Darci will be speaking in Swift Current on April 14, 2012 for Seeds of Success. This is a public event with tickets available from Karen (306)778-6868 Sheila (306)773-6596 Diane (306)773-2429 successdaycare@sasktel.net For more information.

Darci, A Golden Olympian and A Dragon

I love to blog and one of the best things is being able to see how many people visit my site each day, week, month.  I am able to access information like where people are viewing my blog and how they came across my site.  When someone does a Google search for Corla Rokochy or the circus house they are directed to my site.  Other top searches also include Splurge Group ideas, beersbee, Dragon's Den and in the top five is Darci Lang.

Darci is one of the most amazing women, moms, business people I have ever met she is without a doubt one of my greatest inspirations.  I remember the first time I met her over a decade ago. I was in Regina one day in July on my way to a Roughrider game and stopped in at Mallabar Tuxedo Rentals to get more information about The Most Incredible Bridal Show.  Darci is an unforgettable lady but she has the ability to make you feel like the most special person.  I remember her coming out to meet me, this beautiful little lady with the big hair, warm smile and a firm handshake.  She gushed over my photography and told me how beautiful I was.  Talk about great for the self esteem! Ever since that day I have been a huge fan of Darci.

I have been a vendor at the Bridal Show twice and have seen Darci in action.  Motivated, talented, organized and spunky would be great words to describe seeing her mange and MC the show with her husband Darren. Darci inspired me to run a Bridal Show here in Swift Current and when I let her know what I was planning she offered to help me in any way I needed!  Without her as an inspiration I would have never thought of taking on such a big project and this February will be the 2nd Annual Wedding Show in Swift Current.

I was lucky enough to photograph their family and got to see what great parents they are to their adorable kids.  Darci has been an inspiration to me over the last decade and I know she has been to many, many others through her motivational speaking and her book and CD.  You can check out her website here Focus on the 90%

Darci was featured in the summer issue of Fine Lifestyles Regina as an influential woman and one of  Five Extraordinary Citizens.  I would have to agree that Darci is extraordinary and deserving of the honor.  (I was also excited to see an article about my cousin Sharla Shaw and her Tidy Time Saver business in the same magazine pg 117-118)  Darci was kind enough to answer some questions for my blog last year in my Moms I admire section.  Now if Darci could just inspire me with her fashion and hair I would be set.  I am pretty sure Darci doesn't sport the "Mom Bun" on a daily basis!

Without Darci I wouldn't be writing my blog which helps me keep my magnifying glass on my 90%.  I do have a lot to be positive about.  I wouldn't have a lot of great contacts I met through the Bridal Show.  I wouldn't have taken a risk and gone on Dragon's Den but I knew that I had to think of the 90% great things that might come out of it.  Speaking of Dragons Den Darci is currently speaking with Robert Herjavec who of course had my utmost respect as a business person, author,  and Canadian investor.  Along with Hayley Wickenheiser who, as I told you before, I think is such an inspiration as an athlete and mom and such an amazing representative for Saskatchewan and Canada to the world.  Those are some fortunate attendees that get to hear these three inspirational and accomplished speakers.

Fabulous Moms- Darci Lang

You know I love Moms! I love stay at home moms, work from home moms, moms who go to work. Whatever way you do it being a mom is a lot of work.
Here is my first interview with "Moms I admire". This lady has it all going on. A successful business woman who shares her time and talent to make the world a better place. She not only makes time for her kids and husband they come first in everything she does. She has been a source of motivation and inspiration. If you ever get a chance to see her speak she will change your outlook on life.
Ten Questions with Darci Lang
1.How would you define the modern working mother?
[Darci Lang] One that works outside of the home or runs her own business and juggles motherhood along side.
2.How do you juggle a home/family life with a busy and demanding career?
[Darci Lang] I am ruthless with my time. When I am working, I work, when I am off I am OFF. No blackberry, no checking emails on the weekend, just OFF. I find the fully present off is the best gift I can give myself and my family. Otherwise I am a watered down speaker to my clients and a watered down wife and mother.
3.What is your favorite hair product to keep your hair so big?
[Darci Lang] Aveda hairspray called “Firmata”. I really don’t use much other product other than a leave in conditioner.
4.What do you want to be remembered for?
[Darci Lang] Being kind and loving.
5. Pick one indulgence chocolate, bubble baths, trashy magazines, red wine or...?
[Darci Lang] Suite hotel room , the healthiest room service meal , HGTV playing on the TV and a pot of green tea. Crazy woman hey?

6. Your best advice for someone starting their own business.
[Darci Lang] Do it for the right reasons, not to show mom you could or your Ex you could be something, do it for you. Run it by 40 people , some you like and some you don’t and be sure you are doing something that will really work. Then just START. If it is right, don’t over think it, just start, get your feet wet and see what happens. You might fail, oh well, try something else.

7. What would be the name of your family's reality show?
[Darci Lang] Living the REAL life.

8. What is one thing people can do each day to focus on their 90% in the workplace and at home?
[Darci Lang] Stop yourself when you are complaining ( or about to complain) and think about a positive instead. I might complain about my job but I am employed and doing what I love. When I complain about my husband and the mess he makes when he cooks, I remind myself he COOKS and he is kind and loving to me. Consider the alternatives…

9. If you could clone yourself what would you make your clone do?
[Darci Lang] Cook, clean and do the laundry.

10. What is your most major accomplishment personally and professionally and what are your goals for the future.
[Darci Lang] Major accomplishment personally – motherhood. Professionally, being happy. Goals for the future, more of the same. The endless pursuit of waking up and asking, Am I happy? And if not.. what do I need to do to be that.
